Sigma Sigma Phi, Omega Chapter NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE HEATHER STAMPFL, OMS IV, PRESIDENT 2015 – 2016 DR. JERRY BALENTINE, V.P. FOR MEDICAL AFFAIRS AND GLOBAL HEALTH, FACULTY ADVISOR

Board Members  President: Heather Stampfl  Vice President: Danielle Lasalan  Treasurer: Kate Muir  Secretary: Matt Delfiner  Community Service Organizer James Ciancarelli

Omega Chapter’s Activities for 2015  Soup kitchens, projects focusing on childrens’ nutritional needs, screenings for heart health and CPR/AED instruction, egg hunts for community entertainment, participation in walks for National Foundations fighting diseases, even those causes more personal to the community and grass-root in their origin – the Omega Chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi has been involved on all levels, and is preparing for another year of strengthening the ties amongst our student body and faculty, as well as those we share with our neighbors, both locally and nationally.

Mercy Inn Soup Kitchen, Wyandanch, NY, Christmas Holidays, 2014 Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals were provided, this event had a full volunteer sign-up sheet!

Commitment Day 5K, January 1 st, 2015, Syosset, NY  Benefiting the Lifetime Foundation, an organization focused on improving childrens’ nutrition through education and the elimination of highly processed and unnatural ingredients from school lunch menus, ensuring every child has a healthy start to life. Our volunteers were able to participate in the race as well.

Heart Screen New York: March 28 th, 2015, Benjamin Cardoza High School, Oakland Gardens, NY  free cardiovascular screening for adults, young adults and adolescents on Long Island.  Volunteers measured vital signs, performed EKGs, and assisted in teaching students CPR and how to operate an AED.

Manor Farm Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 4 th, 2015, Huntington NY  Throughout the day several of us Sig Sig Phi elects helped local community organizers set up for an egg hunt and manned raffle booths and pumpkin patch walks. A few of the board members are shown here really playing the part!

Marcie Mazzola foundation Memorial 5K Run/Walk, Sunday April 12 th, 2015, Huntington, NY  Marcie Mazzola was a beautiful 21 year old who was killed in an automobile accident in Her foundation was established in 2003 by Marcie’s family. At the time of her death Marcie was involved in a civil law suit against a school bus driver who sexually abused her when she was 11 years old.  Prior to her death, it had been expected that the case would be won but since Marcie could no longer testify, it was going to be next to impossible to win. Marcie’s attorney met with her family to determine if the suit should be continued. He advised the family that Marcie had confided in him her intention to donate her entire award to help sexually and physically abused children if she won the case. Against all odds, the case was won, and Marcie’s legacy lives on as she wished.

American Cancer Society Relay For Life, May 1 st, 2015, NYIT Old Westbury Campus, Old Westbury, NY  For this event, we had a team page set up for contributions, to support those who were able to participate when others with good intentions were not.

Team National Psoriasis Foundation Walk in NYC: Sunday, May 3 rd, 2015, NYC Botanical Gardens

Saturday, May 16 th, Multiple Sclerosis Walk at Jones Beach  Walk MS connects people living with MS and those who care about them. It is an experience unlike any other - a day to come together, to celebrate the progress made and to show the power of uniting with others. Participation in Walk MS helps to raise funds and give hope to nearly 50,000 people affected by MS in our community. The dollars raised support life-changing programs and cutting-edge research. Every connection counts.

And What is to Come This Year...  Oct 17 Heart Screening at Seaford High School, Seaford, NY  More relays for Life  A swimathon with Winthrop University Hospital on Long Island, raising money to support several different childhood disease foundations  Cycling events along with Fun Runs  And much more to be continued...

Past, Current, and Future Goals As is consistent with the goal of our national organization, this year’s 2015 – 2016 Honorary Society remains committed to furthering the science of Osteopathic Medicine and its standards of practice, strengthening our own scholastic standing, both individually and synergistically, and continuing to strive in intensifying ties with our faculty and communities and colleges at large.

Thank You All!
