Just over two in five periods of care in specialised inpatient care and day surgery (42%) begin as an emergency admission. - In per-capita terms, there were considerable differences between specialties and regions concerning inpatient care that started as an emergency admission. There were differences between public and private hospitals service supply - Most surgical operations performed in private hospitals were day surgeries.
