A Streetcar Right-of-Way is Good for Business Presentation to St. Clair B.I.A. Summit Wednesday February 25, 2004 St. Clair Right-of-Way Initiative for Public Transit

PLEASE CLOSE YOUR EYES

What is the issue? Uncertainty about the impact of a dedicated streetcar right-of-way on local business

Change Toronto is changing TTC track changes will be in place for 30 years More people will come to this neighbourhood. If they all travel by car, the street will be congested and business will suffer. Cars don’t shop – people do!

Create a people-friendly St. Clair Slower traffic creates a friendlier atmosphere for pedestrians and cyclists Businesses more visible to motorists New streetcar technology will reduce noise and vibrations Streetcar riders can see businesses they want to visit, get off and shop

Aesthetics Public art and natural environment improvements that can be made with a dedicated ROW will improve the aesthetics of the shopping environment More people will come to St. Clair for a passagiata

Emergency Vehicles ROW is a direct, traffic free route for emergency services to access your business

Taxes Increased TTC ridership means that TTC becomes revenue generating, decreasing it’s reliance on your tax dollars for funding.

Rome

Yes! We need more celebrations!

Corso Italia recognizes the benefits of the streetcar to the positive character of the neighbourhood (photo credit: Corso Italia B.I.A.)

Let’s work together ‘The Devil is in the Details’ Explore new parking lot options Art and natural environment components to design In the future, ask TTC for time-based transfers

The 512 St. Clair streetcar is one of the busiest routes in Toronto. People use the streetcar to get to work and school, to shop, and to explore our community. About 30, 000 riders use the 512 St. Clair streetcar every day At rush hour, half the people travelling on St. Clair are on the streetcar

Please SHARE the road with public transit……. Your customers will thank you for it!

Who is SCRIPT? St. Clair Right-of-Way Initiative for Public Transit We bring together neighbours, local business owners, and people who work and shop in the area. We are advocating for a dedicated right-of-way for streetcars on St. Clair We are your customers
