Expository Writing Fourth Grade

Expository Writing Explains something. Tells how something is done. What is expository writing?

Set-up There must be at least five paragraphs. There is a certain way to write an expository piece.

Purpose of Paragraphs Each paragraph has a specific purpose.

Paragraph 1 Paragraph 1 is an introduction and lists at least three reasons for writing about your topic.

Paragraph 2 Paragraph 2 begins with your first reason. Write a mini-story about this reason, adding descriptive details and interesting information.

Paragraph 3 Paragraph 3 begins with your second reason. Write a mini-story about this reason, adding descriptive details and interesting information.

Paragraph 4 Paragraph 4 begins with your third reason. Write a mini-story about this reason, adding descriptive details and interesting information.

Paragraph 5 Paragraph 5 is a wrap-up or concluding paragraph. Use a turn-around sentence, list your reasons, and have an exciting ending sentence.
