Cro-Magnon By Zach, Joe, Jenna, Robin

Physical Appearance The Cro-Magnon were one of the first humans to look like modern humans. They had pointed chins, and a smaller jaw, teeth, and nose than modern humans do. Their average height of a Cro-Magnon was 4 to 5 feet.

Fire The Cro-Magnons were able to make fire. They used fire for warmth, for cooking, to scare away predators, to hunt, and for light. They created a spark by banging stones together. They kept the fire burning by throwing in wood from the forest.

Tools The Cro-Magnon used fire, spears, arrowheads, hammers, and many more tools like the ones listed. They used the tools for skinning animals, hunting, digging, cooking, building, and more. They used tusks and bones from animals to create a lot of tools. Antlers and horns were used to make tools like harpoons, and stones were used to make arrowheads.

Ceremonies and Religion They had ceremonies for a boy becoming a man, and they had funerals for the dead. There were also ceremonies if the Cro-Magnons had a good hunt. Instruments were played during ceremonies. Also, if they did not need to hunt or gather food, they would celebrate. The religious leader led the ceremonies to honor the dead and to have a happy after life.

Clothing Cro-Magnons made clothing from animal hides. They decorated their clothing with stones and dye from plants.

Dates and Places of Existence The Cro-Magnon people lived in Africa, Asia, and Europe. The Cro-Magnon lived 30,000 years ago. The Cro-Magnon lived after the ice age ended.

Shelters The Cro-Magnon shelters were cave-like places. The Cro-Magnon sometimes had hut-like houses. The huts were made of bones and skin from animals.

Food The Cro-Magnon ate animal meat and wild plants in the fall and winter. They ate nuts and fruits of all kinds in the summer and spring.

Daily Life The men go hunting during the day. The women gather nuts, plants, and fruits during the day. They did not have farmers back then. They used the animals bones, meat, and hide for a lot of stuff around camp

Language The Cro-Magnons were the first of our ancestors to speak clearly. Their language was more advanced than other groups of early humans.

Painting and Carving The cave paintings were mostly of animals, handprints, and of important people. The paint was made of ground-up rocks mixed with animal fat. They were the first people to discover painting and carving.
