Earthworm Dissection Lab

Question Why do we dissect specimens like worms and how do you identify organs?

Hypothesis I believe ….. Because…

Materials Dissecting guides Forceps Probes Scalpel Tray Pins Specimen Scissors Gloves Apron Goggles Water and soap

Procedure Follow Lab procedures for gowning up Read Earthworm Dissection Sheet See Student Dissecting guide from Nasco Clean up 5 minutes before bell rings (wrap specimen in towel and put in trash, Wash tray, Drop tools in soapy water and leave them, & Throw away gloves.)

Data / Results Draw the earthworm and label the organs listed in dissecting guide. Label the anterior and posterior ends.

Data Analysis What is the bump in the middle of the earthworm? How do earthworms mate? How do earthworms move? How many hearts does an earthworm have? How do you distinguish the head from the tail?

Clitellum, Segment, Crop, Buccal cavity, Gizzard, Dissect, Conclusion Today I learned… Next time I would do …. Different My hypothesis was found to be… Vocabulary terms Clitellum, Segment, Crop, Buccal cavity, Gizzard, Dissect,
