Literacy Focus Using Capital Letters

Rule 1! All sentences begin with a capital letter, even sentences that only consist of one word. This is my house. Are you going to school? Stop! Yesterday, when John woke up in the morning, he decided to eat breakfast before getting dressed to go to work in the city.

Rule 2! The proper name, the name of a specific person or thing, begins with a capital letter. Kingdown School Jane Austen David Cameron Empire State Building

Rule 3! Titles of books, songs, stories etc. must begin with a capital letter, but only the important words in that title must be capitalised. Winnie the Pooh The Merchant of Venice Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Rule 4! (Nearly there) The first word of a direct quotation must begin with a capital letter. "Who made this mess?" Papa Bear cried. The prime minister said, "Ask not what your country can do for you." The teacher asked, "Can you answer this question?"

And finally… Always use capital ‘I’ when using the first person! I am not happy. Am I the first person here? Tell me what I have to do.
