Annual survey of CARNet member institutions Barbara Kolarek

Membership Members of CARNet are academic, scientific and research institutions: universities and their respective faculties other higher education institutions scientific and research institutes, and institutions of the primary and secondary education system: secondary schools primary schools school dormitories 2

By connection to the CARNet Network and provision of the necessary equipment, the scientists, professors, teachers in primary and secondary schools, students and other employees of the member institutions are provided Internet access and use of CARNet services. CARNet has 241 member institutions from the academic community, connected to the CARNet Network at 432 locations. There are 1383 members from the primary and secondary educational system, connected at 1789 locations. 4

Survey purpose… finding out our users needs (e.g. document management) introducing new services presenting our services to members 5

Annual survey for member institutions conducted since completing the survey is a contractual obligation survey is completed by the appointed representative for contacts with CARNet the survey is online and they access it via AAI online survey is a part of member institution database approximately 80% of the members fill the survey 6

Survey The survey consists of 6 modules: 1. they access contact information from the database, for checking and recording any changes 2. questions about their institution: the number of users, equipment… 3. questions about usage of CARNet services (Education, security, Internet services, Internet access, multimedia) 4. evaluation of the CARNet services 5. evaluation of the CARNet support (Helpdesk, NOC…) 6. suggestions for improving cooperation 7

Analysis of the survey The database automatically generates graphs We publish a web with analysis and inform the members and Ministry of science, education and sports about it Departments in CARNet recive feedback informations (sugestions and comments) The results are good indicators of the quality and importance of our services 8

Benefits annual update of members data users feedback informing users about services and activities of CARNet familiarizing users with ICT (schools) 9

Disadvantages survey is to big (cca. 150 questions) incomplete feedback from all groups of CARNet users future plans – surveys for specific group of users on representative sample 10
