Netiquette on Social Media Sites Netiquette is the word used that describes the way people communicate while using the internet. Your behaviors will be accepted depending on the type of site or by the people that use that site. Examples of Social Media: Bulletin boardsBlogs Chatrooms Instant Messaging Videoconferencing MUDS When your behavior is not accepted you will know right away by other users who tell you or report you. Netiquette Do’s and Don’ts Do Identify Yourself Use a signature Include a subject line Respect other’s privacy Acknowledge/Respond messages promptly Use appropriate language Use Appropriate emoticons Use appropriate language and intensifiers Don’t Do not use sarcasm Dot send or forward Spam (junk mail)

Copy Right and Fair Use Copy right Protected by copy right laws and you must obtain permission from owner if you would like to use anything that belongs to them. Fair Use Limited use on items on the web without permission of the owner.

Fair Use rules for Print, Music, Video, Photographs, Poetry, etc. The United States copyright office says the following: “Under the fair use doctrine of the U.S. copyright statute, it is permissible to use limited portions of a work including quotes, for purposes such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, and scholarly reports. There are no legal rules permitting the use of a specific number of words, a certain number of musical notes, or percentage of a work. Whether a particular use qualifies as fair use depends on all the circumstances.
