Puppets in the classroom By Ken Haack ETEC 546 Assignment 3

Puppets and their “lives”  Puppets and their voices  Types of puppets  Puppets and their many uses in the classroom.  Puppet rules.  Some of my puppets.

Some of my puppets have voices  Dot  Jannierre  Reggie  Theresa  Timothy  All of these puppets have voices that I do and the students love. Timothy

Individual Voices  Most of my puppets have voices.  My wife says, “Some people hear voices, my husband does them.”  Sometimes the individual voices stick with me and I can’t get rid of them.  Some of the voices don’t always seem to fit, but the kids don’t seem to mind. Only the adults seem to mind if it is an unusual voice.

Who’s who of voices Ken Dot Marco Timothy Janierre Reggie Sneakers And many, many more that I don’t have time to name or do the voices for.

OTHER TYPES OF PUPPETS These include marionettes, hand puppets, life size puppets, over life sized puppets, rod puppets, Shadow puppets, bunraku puppets And mannikin Americans.

How to use puppets in the classroom. 1.Use the puppet to get the students attention. 2.Have the puppet read a story. 3.Let the puppet just talk to the students. 4.Sometimes the puppet will get the students attention even when you can’t. 5. Sometimes the puppet can say things that the teacher can’t say. 6. Sometimes the kids will talk to the puppet when they won’t talk to you. 7. The students will hug the puppet before they will think of hugging you. 8. Introduce the puppet to the students as a special guest that will only come out if they are quiet. 9. After you put the puppet away explain to the students that the puppet is sleeping. 10. The students can use the puppets to do a presentation from behind a curtain instead of in front of their peers. Scooter

Many Puppet faces Sometimes the puppets will say things that children might find upsetting if someone else said it, but because they mostly have cute faces and I can make them do cute expressions the students don’t mind. Usually the student will laugh and realize that the puppet is just having fun.

Puppet rules  The students need to sit still or the puppet won’t appear  The students are not allowed to pull on the puppet or put their fingers in the puppets mouth.  The students are not allowed to punch the puppets.  If they follow the rules I will pass the puppet around and they can play briefly.

My puppets  I have two monkey puppets, a polar bear, a wolf, a tiger, two leopards, three dogs, Grover, a dragon, a baboon, a moose, a reindeer, a unicorn, a snake that I made, a couple of human puppets that I made, a human puppet that I bought, plus many many more that I can’t think to name. Or don’t have room here to name.
