About Us September 2013 The Dandenong Neighbourhood House has developed a range of activities and programs such as Skill Building Adult Education Classes English as a Second Language Classes funded Men's Shed Activities Educational and recreational programs Support groups for socially isolated people Dig In Community Garden Exercise and health promotion activities Social contact for the community of Dandenong Collect and dispense community information and networks with other local organisations

Vision and Mission Our Vision By 2016 changing lives through education, learning, support, partnership and choice. Our Mission Service the community who are vulnerable, disadvantaged, facing financial hardship or social distress by assisting with information, education and learning, referrals and support services. September 2013

The Problem September 2013 Dandenong Neighbourhood House close to closing its doors. Due to : 1.Decline in learners attendance 2.New programs needed to be developed. 3.Failure to meet contractual agreements 4.Lack of space and facilities 5.Resignation of House Manager

1.Develop a Committee of Management with sound business skills 2.Recruit and appoint new Manager 3.Create sound processes by which the organisation would be: 1.directed 2.controlled 3.be accountable  Governance 

The Plan to Survive September Identify key Dandenong Stakeholders and specific learner groups 2.Identify community needs in Dandenong 3.Identify a new strategic direction in the context of community needs analysis and identified opportunities 4.Review and analyse existing financial structure and reporting to maximise new strategic direction 5.Develop a strategic plan, business plan and operational plan 6.Implement quality systems – in financial management & reporting, enrolment and client management, human resources and general admin 7.Improve skills and knowledge of staff, volunteers and Committee

The Process September 2013 Need  Committee to determine their skills and what they are offering to the organisation. Tool  Completion of the tools from the OCS Governance Capability Framework by all Committee of Management Members Outcome  Some COM Members found it confronting  COM Members were able to see what they brought to the table
