Meditation and Hypnosis States of Consciousness Unit 3

Objectives  Determine the implications of meditation in religion, self help, etc  Determine the implications of hypnosis in the treatment of anxiety, depression, addiction  Examine the benefits of posthypnotic suggestion

Meditation  Used to find religion or self and in some medical treatments (stress and pain)  Suppresses the nervous system, lowers metabolism, reduces heart and respiratory rates, decreases blood lactate and increases alpha waves

Meditation Techniques

Hypnosis  A trancelike state in which a person responds readily to suggestion  Can tell a person to perceive things that aren’t there and can help in treating addiction, phobia, and even hemophilia  CanNOT make someone do something dangerous or foolish against their will

Hypnosis for Pain Relief

Posthypnotic Suggestion  Can help people beyond the hypnosis  EX: A person suffering from chronic pain may be told to pull on their earlobe when it starts. This will trigger the suggestion that the pain is gone from the hypnosis session  Most success with hypnosis is temporary!

Exit Ticket  Determine the implications of meditation in religion, self help, etc  Determine the implications of hypnosis in the treatment of anxiety, depression, addiction  Examine the benefits of posthypnotic suggestion
