Meet Your Teacher Night !!! Welcome, parents, family, and friends!!!

Gil Co – 6 th Grade Reading/Advanced  4 th Year Teaching at Rogers Middle School  Married on January 5, 2013  UH Graduate- History Major/English Minor  Bandit walker/wrangler

 “What do we do in reading class besides read?”  Practice Reading Skills & Strategies-ex.) Making inferences  Discuss literary and informational text  “Genre Tree” – Multiple genres; ex.) Fiction, Literary Non-Fiction, Informational Text, Media Literacy, etc.  “Literary Lexicon”- our word walls…  Academic Vocabulary  Projects; Reading Logs; Essays; Assessments  Discover books/authors/stories/ideas we love…hopefully.

“BALANCED LITERACY ”  Read Aloud- Modeled reading to the entire class and discussing important literary terms, tier II vocabulary, and making connections.  Shared Reading- Strategy/Skill taught with student interaction  Guided Reading- Small reading groups in class; focusing on a certain strategy or skill  Work Stations- Computer programs; listening and writing exercises.  Independent Reading- Students quietly read in class and create written responses.

 Tutoring & Extra Help  I will be available for tutoring in my classroom (322) every Tuesday morning at 8AM.  I can make arrangements to come in on other mornings or stay after school if necessary. (Except Wednesday afternoons-Yearbook Committee!)
