© California Commissioning Collaborative California’s Energy Centers Program is intended to enhance Energy Education at the community college level. Education, State of the Art Technology and Research are not connected now. Concept is to allow for a seamless move from innovation to adoption within California. Operator Education

© California Commissioning Collaborative Vision Statement Operators need to be better educated to be able to use new technologies effectively

© California Commissioning Collaborative Education is not Training An instructive or enlightening experience background, book learning, civilization, coaching, cultivation, culture, direction, discipline, edification, enlightenment, erudition, finish, guidance, improvement, information, knowledge, learnedness, learning, literacy, nurture, pedagogy, preparation, reading, refinement, scholarship, schooling, science, study, teaching, training, tuition, tutelage, tutoring

© California Commissioning Collaborative Energy Centers’ Assembly Bill opens a door, but we enter it or it will close again! Community Colleges have the goal of filling their seats and they are not dissatisfied with the status quo (about 5000 students a year). We want Energy Education included and they do not know what to teach - innovations have been introduced without transmitting the info to them.

© California Commissioning Collaborative Some Obstacles Recruiting Students may not be as easy as we would like, we will have to aggressively market the opportunities. Where are the men? The operators we need fall into two categories of work that historically have been difficult to synthesize – craft and professional (or blue and white collar work).

© California Commissioning Collaborative Why Energy Centers? The model we are following is the Biotech and Advanced Automobile Initiatives. Those groups developed an ongoing infrastructure that continues despite whimsical political changes. Energy is important and our Energy workforce deserves that same attention. Developing Centers creates a political group.

© California Commissioning Collaborative We need to create a formal Energy Community for Energy Education. Support energy education Develop political will Builds individual programs Develop the infrastructure and contacts within Energy Organizations to provide ongoing assistance.

© California Commissioning Collaborative Ideas? Want to help? Chris Shockman
