BANNED BOOK PROJECT TIPS AND TRICKS

o Consult 100 Banned Books first o Search smart: “How many times has Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret been banned in schools in the United States?” o “Book title,” banned, challenged, removed, censored

o Short and to the point o Try to find info about their writing career o May or may not be able to find info about their response to book banning/censorship o Paraphrasing would be appropriate (with citations, of course)

o Book’s theme o Author’s message/intent o Availability in school libraries o Part of instructional program?

o Consider multiple perspectives (parent, student, teacher, administration, community members, to name a few) o Support your argument o Look at precedent and history
