2 Refrigerant Monitoring  Checking for excess moisture in the refrigerant  Checking for low charge or loss of refrigerant

3 Moisture  Excess moisture can lead to  acid formation which eats away at refrigeration equipment.  icing which can cause restrictions in valves and ports (reducing efficiency).

4 Low or Lost Refrigerant  Low refrigerant levels can lead to  extensive equipment failure  to labor- intensive repairs and replacement of expensive system components.  product spoilage and loss in cooler/freezer systems.

5 Why Monitor Refrigerant?  Consider the economic incentives.  Consider the environmental impact (for its own sake and for the regulations).  Consider our professional responsibility to protect the facility and its occupants.

6 Typical Monitoring  Direct—Probes and float switches in level columns and tanks, with connected control panels, measure refrigerant levels directly.  Indirect—Gas monitors and connected control panels measure the atmospheric result of loss.

7 Typical Monitoring  Both of these methods are costly, particularly in small box operations (restaurants, convenience stores, etc.).  In the case of indirect measurements, serious loss occurs before alarms are made and repairs initiated.

25 Considerations  First Watch is dependent upon the proper installation of the site glass.  In addition, the site glass should be clean.  When used with certain chiller types, FirstWatch should be tied to a BAS to compensate for start-up and cycle turbulence.
