Welcome! This is the thirteenth edition of the Practice Newsletter for all our patients at Dinnington, Anston, and Woodsetts Surgeries. If you wish to contribute to the next newsletter (Jan - Mar 2015) please send to the Practice Manager at Anston Medical Centre. Dinnington Group Practice Patient Newsletter Issue No. 13 Oct – Dec 2014 Flu Clinics The annual flu vaccine season is upon us. This year we are holding flu clinics at Dinnington, Anston & Woodsetts surgeries. We are inviting all patients over 65 and those who are under 65 and suffer from diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease or other chronic illness. If you are a main carer you may also be eligible for the vaccination. Pregnant women - It is recommended that all pregnant women should have the flu vaccine, whatever stage of pregnancy they're in. The vaccine does not carry risks for either the mother or baby. Most children aged between 2 and 17 years, who are in the above mentioned at risk categories, will receive their flu protection by a nasal spray rather than an injection. The clinics are being held at: Dinnington & Anston Surgery on:Woodsetts surgery on; Saturday 11 th & 18 th October 2014Wednesday 8 th October 2014 between 9.00am – 2.00pmBetween 2.00pm – 5.30pm. There will be some evening Flu Clinics available please contact your surgery for times and dates. All patients with the above categories should receive a letter inviting them to a clinic. If you do not receive a letter please contact the surgery. If you do not want the flu vaccination please contact the surgery so that we can offer the vaccination to someone else. All healthy children aged 2,3 and 4 are eligible for the flu vaccination and will be invited to attended specific clinics at the surgery. Education & Training Half Days All surgeries will be closed from 12 Noon for training on: 16th October th November th December 2014 Shingles Vaccination A new shingles vaccination programme will start in September It is being offered to all patients who are 70 or 79. (Those born between – and born between – ) Those patients who become 70 after will not be eligible for the vaccine this year but will become so in future Years. The aim of the vaccination programme is to reduce the incidence and severity of shingles disease in older people. Patient eligible for vaccine are being contacted by the surgery and invited into clinics.

New Website Free NHS Health Check Helping you prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. NHS Health Checks are being offered to people aged between 40 and 74 years, who have not been diagnosed with any of the above conditions. The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it. If you would like to take advantage of this new service please book an appointment with one of our Health care Assistants for a ‘NHS Health Check’. We will be inviting patients by letter over the next 2 years but will be happy to see anyone who wishes to book an appointment prior to receiving their invitation. We are encouraging all patients within this group to take advantage of this service. By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of those conditions. We are undertaking much needed improvements that will benefit our patients. We ask for your understanding and flexibility during the alterations and apologise in advance for any inconvenience.
