Jenner Health Centre Patient Participation Group Welcome Meeting 15 March 2011

Jenner Health Centre What is a Patient Participation Group? Patients working with a Practice to: Contribute to the continuous improvement of services Foster improved communication between the Practice and patients Help patients take more responsibility for their health Provide practical support and help to implement change Each group is unique and reflects the individual aspects of the Practice and its population Work by building a relationship between the Practice and patients to break down barriers and share information Can develop to influence the wider NHS and decisions made on behalf of patients about services available to them – i.e. GP Commissioning National Association of Patient Participation Groups

Jenner Health Centre Why we would like to start a Patient Participation Group A Patient Group is good for Patients and good for the Practice The NHS is changing and will moving towards GP Commissioning by 2013 We would like a greater dialogue with our Patients about the services we provide and how we provide them We would like a forum to explore future health services available to our patients and how we can influence and develop them We would like the Group to develop its own aims and objectives and what it would like to achieve We will help get to you started and support you every step of the way

Jenner Health Centre How is the NHS changing? GP Practices will commission local Healthcare services for patients Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities will be abolished and new regulatory bodies introduced. GP Practices will form Commissioning Clusters to work together and pool NHS budgets locally. Jenner Health Centre is part of the Borderline Commissioning Cluster New Queen Street Surgery, Stanground Surgery, Yaxley Group Practice, Doddington Medical Practice, Hampton Health, Nene Valley Medical Practice, Old Fletton Surgery, Eye and Thorney Surgeries, Oundle Medical Practice and Wansford and Kings Cliffe Surgeries also in Borderline 93,500 patients in total with a annual budget of approx £xxxm

Jenner Health Centre Establishing Ground Rules for the Group Meetings are not a forum for individual complaints and single issues We advocate open and honest communication between individuals We will be flexible, listen, ask for help and support each other We will demonstrate a commitment to delivering results as a Group Silence indicates agreement – speak up but always go through the Chair All views are valid and will be listened to No phones or other disruptions We will start and finish on time and stick to the Agenda

Jenner Health Centre How do we get things started?! Agree a date and time for our next meeting. Ask for volunteers for a Chair person. Think about what you would like to work towards and any information you might need. Would you like Simon to arrange any speakers – if so, who? Would you like to raise funds or provide support services? Have a think about your terms of reference – draft copy to get you started is available. Any Questions or Feedback?

Jenner Health Centre Thank you for taking the time to attend our first meeting and for your support.
