PROVO PARKING LOT DESIGN Clifton Hargus, Rachel Bytheway, Derek Noyes

Outline  Background  Project Goals  Research  Drainage Requirements  Designs  Final Recommendation  Cost Analysis

Background  Pavement Severely Failing  Not Enough Parking  Insufficient Drainage

Goals  The parking lot needs to be designed with better drainage.  Parking spaces need to be arranged to obtain the maximum number possible.  Multiple construction phases should be considered.

Research  Survey of Site  Coring of Asphalt  Inspection of Current Drainage  Drainage Calculations

Drainage Requirements

Curb and Gutter Provides Excellent Drainage Protects Landscaping from Automobiles Aesthetically Pleasing Significant Earthwork Required to Reverse Existing Slope Double Amount of Piping Difficult for Multiple Phases

Curb and Gutter Costs ItemCost/UnitUnitsTotal Cost 1' Curb and Gutter $ 7450 $ 3,150 Labor (1 hour) $ $ 5,000 Job Supplies $ 431 Equipment $ 601 Total $ 8,253

Channel Drain Continuous Grate for Quick Drainage Resistant to Clogs

Channel Drain Costs ItemCost/UnitUnitsTotal Cost 4' Slot Drain $ $ 8,844 2' Slot Drain Cover $ $ 8,448 Catch Basin $ 1501 Manhole $ 1,0001 8" Pipe $ 3100 $ 300 Subtotal $ 18,742

Box Drain

Provides Adequate Drainage Works with Existing Slope Minimal Construction Impact Provides No Protection for Landscaping No Curb and Gutter Requires some Maintenance

Box Drain Costs DrainageCost/UnitUnitsTotal Cost 1' of 8" Pipe $ 3350 $ 1,050 Drain Inlet $ 4006 $ 2,400 Drain Covers $ 1006 $ 600 Manhole $ 1,0001 Subtotal $ 5,050

Box Drain System Final Recommendation Significantly Less Expensive Provides Adequate Drainage Minimal Construction Impact Allows for Construction Phasing

Final Cost Analysis DrainageCost/UnitUnitsTotal Cost 1' of 8" Pipe $ 3350 $ 1,050 Drain Inlet $ 4006 $ 2,400 Drain Covers $ 1006 $ 600 Manhole $ 1,0001 Subtotal $ 5,050 ConstructionCost/UnitUnitsTotal Cost 1 ft 2 2" Asphalt $ $ 18,400 1 yd 3 Excavation $ $ 6,900 Mobilization $ 1,0001 Parking Striping $ $ 912 Parking Bumpers $ 1956 $ 1,036 Subtotal $ 27,212 Total $ 32,262

Parking Space Optimization 8.5’X18’ Parking Stalls 56 Spaces Needed Excavation of 400 Sq. ft. 57 Spaces Provided
