The Tower of Hercules The Tower rises between Orzán Bay and the Ártabro Gulf – it´s the oldest working lighthouse in the world and was declared a world heritage site in 2009.
Glass City Galleries in the marina avenue provide visitors with a mirror that collects all the daylight reflections, from sunrise to night fall, this has given La Coruña the name of Glass City.
Monte de San Pedro What was once a former defence point has become La Coruña's best viewpoint. From Monte San Pedro (San Pedro Wood) we can see the comings and goings of boats guided by the millenary lighthouse. You will be impressed by the presence of the immense cannons. The old city Like with all cities, it is essential to visit the “Old City”. A journey through its streets allows us to re-live the different stages of its history and places us in the varied rhythms of the heartbeat of a medieval and barroque city.
San Antón Castle At the end of the XVI century Felipe II ordered the construction of Castillo de San Antón on a small rocky island to act as a fortress for the port at La Coruña. It has been the object of successive reform projects and acquired its present use at the end of the XVIII century. It was also a prison until the middle of the XX century. Since 1968 it is the headquarters of the Museo Arqueológico e Histórico (Archaeological and Historical Museum).
La Coruña has more than two kilometres of beaches in the city, which makes it an ideal place for practising all types of water sports: surf, sailing, windsurf, diving, rowing, canoeing... A stone throws away from Plaza de Pontevedra (Pontevedra Square) are the beaches of Riazor (610 metres in length), Orzán and Matadero (780 metres in length). They merge together to form an open shell exposed to the Atlantic.
The night La Coruña is cool and has a healthy and fun nightlife, you can eat well and then enjoy the night.
Winter in the city is rainy but temperatures are mild. In summer the temperatures are also soft. CLIMATE
GASTRONOMY
“Pulpo á feira” – boiled octopus served over boiled potatoes with olive oil and paprika. “Pimientos de Padrón” – flash-fried green peppers. As the saying goes, some are spicy, others are not. “Empanada gallega” – a pasty, most often stuffed with tuna or ground beef with peppers and onions.
