What makes portraiture a unique art form?

George Washington Carver reputedly discovered three hundred uses for peanuts and hundreds more for soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes. He conducted experiments in crop rotation and the restoration of soil fertility, worked with hybrid cotton, and invented useful products from peanuts, sweet potatoes, and Alabama red clay. Among his fellow students Carver was known as the "doctor" for his way with plants. He became known as the "Wizard of Tuskegee," not only because of his efforts to help his students, but also because of his successes in extending the school's influence to farmers in the surrounding area. "It is not the style of clothes one wears, neither the kind of automobile one drives, nor the amount of money one has in the bank that counts. These mean nothing. It is simply service that measures success." When World War I brought shortages of certain imported goods, federal officials consulted Carver about some of his products. He was hailed as a pioneer in the new applied science of chemurgy, or the finding of industrial uses for agricultural products.
