Creating a Context In order to read Romeo and Juliet effectively, it is important to create your own context.

What’s your context? Just because Romeo and Juliet was written hundreds of years ago, that does not mean that we have to interpret it as if we were reading it hundreds of years ago.

The Plot Lives! - The reason we are still reading Romeo and Juliet is because the conflicts within the play are still present. - Can you think of two feuding groups of people that might keep to people from wanting to date each other?

The Plot Lives! - Bloods vs. Crips - Packer Fans vs. Bear Fans - One clique of friends vs. another clique of friends. - What is your context going to be?

The Prologue Prologue = Introduction - Here we learn the major conflict and setting of the story.

My Prologue Remix In the frigid city of Green Bay, where our story is set, Two families who both adored their team with dignity Take their football fan hood a bit to seriously. For when their trivial grudge pushes two conflicted lovers to take their own life These families of football fans are forced to reexamine their strife. Within the next few scenes, it become apparent That even Bears and Packer fans can engage in marriage.
