Carter Doran Award  She has exceptional knowledge of all matters academic and an unswerving commitment to doing what is best for our students.  She is a teacher, a coach, a mentor, an advocate for all things academic, a promoter of programs to provide support for student success, a trusted leader, and a superb human being.  She is not afraid to take on the big guns, to challenge the norm, her only demand is fair and reasonable participation.  She is one of the best leaders in our community colleges.  Her experience, steady hand, and amazing ability to maintain her sense of humor taught me a great deal about leadership during times of crisis.

Carter Doran Award  She is a caring leader and it is evidenced in the loyalty that she inspires in those who work for her.  She has left an indelible mark on the students she has taught, the faculty colleagues with whom she has taught, the executives with whom she has served, the administrative teams she has led, and on our California community college system for which she has been a tireless advocate.  She captured the hearts and minds of all with whom she worked very simply by being herself - forthright, trustworthy, and bringing resources to bear to create an environment in which all felt respected and could do their best and most creative work.  Her strong leadership has helped colleges mired in campus-wide turmoil, contributed to our success as an organization, and resulted in the basic skills initiative. Updates  Noncredit Repetition  Part 2 of Title 5 revisions - June 2008  CO directed to study noncredit repetition and multiple enrollments  Report to BOG by May 31, 2009 on appropriate limitations - adoption by January 31, 2010

Updates: Noncredit Repetition  Report: discussion of each noncredit area; state-level data; college-level data  While noncredit impacts 1 of every 3 students in our system, it represents 6% of our revenue  Re-enrollment occurs in 1 out of every 3 noncredit enrollments but only represents 1.8% of apportionment

Updates: Noncredit Repetition  Noncredit Repetition: Top 3 areas of re- enrollment statewide:  Citizenship  Persons with Substantial Disabilities  Older Adult  Noncredit Repetition: Top 3 areas of re- enrollment selected colleges:  same as above plus  Parenting  Home Economics

Updates: Assessment/Placement/Prerequisites  Promote academic integrity  Strengthen student success  Culture of college readiness  Number of reports examining these areas - particularly student success  LAO report released in June see recommendations on handout  APG to examine these recommendations and provide a plan of action

Updates: Assessment/Placement/Prerequisites  Change Title 5 to only require content review for validation of a prerequisite  Support for statewide prerequisites for specific courses  Support ongoing system efforts to increase matriculation funding and promote (but not require) a desirable counselor:student ratio  50% law changes: reasonable percentage inclusive of counselors and librarians or neutral calculation  CCC Assess Proposal - Carole will discuss SENATE’S SESSION UP NEXT AT 10:30!

Updates: Concurrent Enrollment  CO Taskforce  Research studies: promoting a statewide agenda involving a ramping up of concurrent enrollment  Access: not just for academically advanced - but to cultivate a culture of college-going among the underserved, underrepresented, at-risk, first generation  Currently where are special admits?  Degree applicable, non-PE: 87%  Degree applicable, PE: 6%  Credit, non-degree applicable: 4%  Noncredit: 3%  Efforts include proposed legislation (AB78 - Portantino and AB555 -Furutani) to expand access (particularly to basic skills/ESL) and remove barriers  Much potential but many challenges
