What do you think of when you see these things?

Those pictures were all symbols. A symbol is something that represents something else. Here are some more examples. What can be a symbol? There are all sorts of types of symbols too. A Word An Object A Picture A Color A Shape Mathematical Religious Political

Can you think of any symbols?

Symbols in Writing Writers also use symbols. When something in a story or poem represents something else it means the writer has used symbolism.
