Biology Laboratory Tools Unit: 1 (B)

Dissection Pan- Used to place a specimen in when conducting a dissection.

Safety Glasses- Used during lab procedures to protect the eyes.

Dropper- Used to carry small drops of liquid from a container to where it’s necessary in lab.

Triple Beam Balance- Used to measure the mass of an object.

Bunsen Burner- Produces a flame to provide an experiment with heat if necessary.

Forceps- Used for holding, moving, or picking up things during experiments.

T-Pins- Used for pinning or holding down object to a dissection pan during dissection.

Beaker- Used for holding and measuring liquids during experiments.

Ruler- Used for measuring length of objects.

Graduated Cylinder- Used for measuring, transporting, and pouring liquid during experimentation.

Microscope- Used to magnify objects so that they can be seen clearly.

Test Tube- Used for holding liquid during an experiment.

Test Tube Holder- A rack used to hold test tubes during an experiment.

Scissors- Used for cutting especially during dissections.

Glass Slide- Used to display a specimen under a microscope. Cover Slip- Placed over the specimen on the glass slide.

Petri Dish- Used to hold samples, usually growing; bacteria, fungus, etc. to be used in an experiment.

Probe- Used for pointing, moving, or pushing during dissection. Scalpel- Cutting tool used during dissection.

Funnel- Used for pouring liquid from one container to another.

Thermometer- Used for measuring temperature during experimentation.

Pipette- Used for transporting a measured liquid.
