3 JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH Quick History 1.Founded in 1974 (Volume 1) by the southern groups of marketing academics. 2.Purchased in 1978 by North Holland, now called Elsevier. 3.To keep pace with the volume of submissions, the number of issues per year has increased from 4 to 6 to 8 and now Starting in 2002, published in one volume, 12 issues (about pages per issue). 5.JBR is associated with the Society for Marketing Advances and is a free benefit to its members.

5 JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH Basic Facts 1.Electronic submissions are now required. 2.Average turnaround time is about 8 weeks (decision date - date manuscript received). 3.About 60-70% of manuscripts are rejected on the first round, the others are given the opportunity to revise and resubmit 4.Among the R&R group, about 2 out of 3 are submitted a second time. 5.Most manuscripts go through 2 to 3 rounds of reviews. 6.The overall acceptance rate is around 8%. 7.Once accepted, manuscript posted on Articles in Press ( and published within one year.

6 JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH Rankings/Impact 1.The JBR is consistently ranked in the top tier of marketing journals worldwide (using reputation or citation). 2.Ranked 8th in the Journal of Marketing Education (Spring 1997) study. 3.Impact factor in 2005 is (Journal Citation Reports) 4.Ranked 12th worldwide, 9th by Europeans in the Marketing Letters (2002) study. 5.Every three months, Top 25 Hottest Articles (top25.sciencedirect.com), with archives to Jul-Sep 2004.

7 JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH Minor Issues in Publishing 1.Provide a cover letter in which you may indicate which area is best suited for your manuscript. 2.Thoroughly proof read your manuscript for typos and grammatical errors. 3.Make sure all pages are numbered, all tables and figures are included. 4.For review purposes, manuscripts of 30 double-space pages (all inclusive) are acceptable. 5.Once the paper is accepted, the limit is 7000 words (all inclusive). 6.Make sure abstract is a true reflection of the contents, but less that 150 words. 7.Avoid redundancies in the text/figures and eliminate footnotes.

8 JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH Major Issues in Publishing 1.Literature review should justify hypotheses and/or model. 2.Hypotheses should be properly stated. 3.Analysis should test hypotheses and/or model. 4.Interpretation and managerial implications are critical. 5.Make sure the first version you send is as good (in both form and format) as possible. 6.If given a chance to revise and resubmit (even if it is a risky one), take it and run with it. 7.Answer each point fully and carefully in writing to each reviewer and the Associate Editor. Be polite and considerate.
