ETP Group 244 BACKGROUND Shoes tend to generate bad odor due to the heat and sweat. The Odorless Shoe Dryer is capable to dry wet shoes quickly so that the water will not stay inside the shoes and prevent bad odor. It is also equipped with an automatic shoe polisher.

ETP Group 245 PROBLEM STATEMENTS Sweat and moisture cause bad odor and affect the quality of the shoes. Most of UTP students who play sports always leave their shoes scattered around the hostel after sports causing discomfort to others. Most enclosed shoe racks do not have good ventilation systems

ETP Group 246 Survey results QUESTION 1: After playing sports or after walking in heavy rain, do your shoe stay wet and smell badly the next morning? SA= Strongly agree A= Agree D= Disagree SD= Strongly Disagree

ETP Group 247 Survey results QUESTION 2 : Do you think Odorless Shoe Dryer is a good idea and will you purchase if it is available in the market?

ETP Group 248 OBJECTIVES Installation of an effective ventilation to channel the bad odor trapped in the shoe rack. Applying a heat source and chemical substance to dry off the shoes and absorb the moist in the air. To provide a new method in polishing the shoes automatically

ETP Group 249 PROJECT PLANNING WEEKTASKPERSON IN CHARGE 2Work on the ProposalALL 3-Gather Information -Design the prototype -Thanu, Rian, Jalilah - ALL 4-Obtain Materials - Identify required materials -Thanu, Rian, Jalilah -ALL 5-Assemble shoe rack -Install fan Yapp, Luqman Hakim, Luqman 6 & 7Gather more information to improve (mid term holiday) ALL 8-Install the polisher -Modify the door -Rian, Jalilah, Thanu -Luqman Hakim, Luqman 9Install other electrical componentsJalilah, Luqman 10Test the prototypeALL 11 PresentationALL

ETP Group 2410 BASIC FUNCTION To Store Shoes  can accommodate up to 6 adults shoes -3 men shoes at the top shelf -3 women shoes at bottom shelf

ETP Group 2411 ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS VENTILATION  We have installed two fans at the top back of the shoe rack  This is to ensure the shoe rack has proper ventilation  The air inside the shoe rack circulates and the smelly and moist air will go out of the shoe rack.  The fan is set to on every night for 3 hours

ETP Group 2412 ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS HEATER LAMP  Two heater lamp is positioned at the bottom inside of the shoe rack  The heat from the lamp dries the wet shoes  It is positioned at the bottom because hot air moves upwards. With the help of the fan the hot air circulates inside the shoe rack dries the damp shoes.

ETP Group 2413 ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS DEHUMIDIFIER AND FRAGRANCE  The air entering shoe rack passes through calcium chloride container and the moist in the air is absorbed.  The less moist air will absorb the moist from the shoes and leaves the shoe rack through the ventilation system  Inside the shoe rack there is spring blossom fragrance

ETP Group 2414 ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AUTOMATIC POLISHER  This system cleans off the dust from the shoe  It also polishes black leather shoes

ETP Group 2417 SCHEMATICS OF WIRING

ETP Group 2418 System will be turned off after the set duration by the timer START Main switch is turned on Timer is set according to user’s preference Shoes are put and arrange in the shoe rack Doors are closed Ventilation fans are heating bulbs will be turned on STOP FLOW PROCESSES

ETP Group 2419 RESULTS Dampness of the shoe at night (scale of 1-10) Number of shoes Hours of the light and fan was turned on Dampness of the shoe the next morning (scale of 1-10) The OSD was tested several times with wet shoes to get accurate results.

ETP Group 2420 DISCUSSION The appropriate time for the heater lamp and fan to be on at night is: Number of shoes Hours of heater lamp & fan to be on
