got discipline? C & R EDUCATION CONSULTING FIRM Dr. Wanda Caldarera and Carla Reeves
Allowing sufficient time to teach and practice routines—over and overAllowing sufficient time to teach and practice routines—over and over Effective Teaching Maintaining consistency with routinesMaintaining consistency with routines Continuing to use strategies even when students experience setbacksContinuing to use strategies even when students experience setbacks Would you teach long division only 2 or 3 times and then stop if they have not yet mastered the skill?
Is it hard to do? Repetition What’s the payoff? Is it time-consuming? It takes patience. Teachers and students leaving school HAPPY and not upset! Yes…and also frustrating. Academic time seems to be wasted a little at the beginning, but ultimately, the routines save a great deal of time and allow the teacher to focus almost entirely on instruction.
