KS4: A CRUCIAL STAGE IN YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION A TIME TO: ACQUIRE CERTIFICATED ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS (GCSE/BTEC) WHICH WILL LAST THEM A LIFE TIME. EXPERIENCE THE REALITIES OF THE WORLD OF WORK. GAIN AN INSIGHT INTO FURTHER EDUCATION REFLECT ON THEIR FUTURE CAREER. DEVELOP STUDY, ORGANISATIONAL AND TRANSFERABLE SKILLS.

OUR AIM: That each student leaves:  Having reached their full potential.  Having had a challenging, relevant learning experience.  Equipped to progress in the outside world.  With a set of values which will enable them to mix in a multi-ethnic, multi-faceted society.

That all members of the school community  Understand the importance of having a positive attitude towards their lessons  Show tolerance and compassion, treating everyone as they themselves would like to be treated.  Know they are valued and that they have done their best. OUR EXPECTATIONS:

CHANGE TO GCSE’S Final exams only & coursework elements in practical subjects

YEAR GROUP MONITORING  Students progress will be monitored in detail by the Head of Year and also the Raising Achievement Group  During this time we will be looking at all aspects of students’ work, as well as attendance, punctuality, behaviour & attitude to learning.

 Students will be set realistic, yet challenging targets.  Students will be made aware of the success criteria in subjects in order to reach their targets

 Subject Teachers will ensure that all work is marked regularly, to provide feedback to help students  Subject Leaders will be looking at the work and progress of students throughout the year in their subject

TRACKING YEAR 10  Students’ progress will be tracked using our Assessment recording and reporting System.  Students will be formally assessed half-termly in all their subjects. This allows us to identify underachievement. If this occurs, we will address it instantly by inviting the student for an interview and parents/carers will be informed.

 The purpose of the Year 10 mentoring scheme is to support the pastoral and academic development of identified students.  Identified students will be allocated to a mentor and parents/carers informed and updated on how they can also support their child.  In individual subjects, subject teachers will monitor performance against targets and will mentor as appropriate.  Parents will normally be informed when any intervention is put into place as the support of parents is key to the student’s success. Year 10 Mentoring

These include:  Head of Year – Mrs Jewer  Student Manager – Mrs Hudson  Form Tutors  SLT Student Support – Mrs Murray-Brown  Counsellor.  Mentoring to motivate and support progress Support Mechanisms Support Mechanisms

 Form tutors will monitor the attendance, behaviour and achievement of students in their form group. Referrals will be made to the Head of Year if necessary  Form Tutors will check planners and liaise with parents/carers on identified issues Form Tutor Monitoring
