Road Safety Challenge 2014

The time has come when 18 legends from Slovakia could enroll on a list of winners!

It all began on the Russian language lesson when our teacher had an idea to take part in a project, since our school had not participated in a project before. We decided to change it and our class decided to take part in this project which interested us as first.

After the initiative we got moving and we got our brain cells working. We were thinking about how to prepare a programme so that our younger students would get the most of it. We found out that one learns best by their own mistakes and we decided to make a short video about how to behave on roads and how to take better care.

Before we could teach them something about the road safety, we had to get better in our knowledge of the topic, so we watched a video called “How to behave on roads in different situations“. We learnt a lot of things too so that we could pass on the knowledge to the youngest students.

Watching the video

After enriching our knowledge, we went into the streets to make a video about how to behave and how to respect one another on roads.

The time came when we taught our youngest students by our own video about how to cross a road correctly, because a lot of road accidents happen on pedestrian crossings. For a little practice, we asked them to help us with creation of road signs for our big plan...

Connecting good with useful

The best part came which we were looking forward to. To find out whether the citizens of Sobrance and the students of our secondary school were satisfied with the road situation in our town, we went into the streets to ask them three short questions.

A survey

Do you miss traffic lights in our town? 37 out of 57 respondents said yes. Do you think that it is necessary to improve road marking? We found out that 48 respondents out of 57 are not satisfied with it. Is the evening lighting in our town sufficient? The opinion poll shows that more than 50 per cent of the respondents are satisfied with it.

To make our youngest students official members of our project, we made badges with the logo of our project. They were very pleased and they had a better feeling about this project and more willing to help and cooperate.

In the end we took our prima class students to the traffic playground where we put our theoretical knowledge into practice. We showed them a number of road situations where they could learn how to react in real life, mainly how to give first aid after an accident. We hope that we taught them greater safety, which was the aim of our project.

our Russian language teacher especially for giving us the idea of taking part in this project, our English language teacher for helping with translating of this project into the English language, also the whole prima class without whom this project wouldn´t exist, last but not least, our class teacher for willingness and readiness to help us realize this project.
