The Integrated Community Development Project in the Settlement Areas pilot project Meaning: Activity planned as a test or trial What does pilot project & ICDA ? ICDA=The Integrated Community Development Project Meaning: ICDP Approach – What is it? The ICDP approach to the community development in settlements is to improve the living conditions in settlements by the participatory approach to planning, implementation and management of various community development projects by using the PCM and other participatory methods and self-help efforts of settlement people supported by the governments. Main Characteristics of the ICDP Main characteristics of the Project are as follows. (1) It utilizes pilot projects as well as various trainings as means to realize the capacity development. (2) It adopts a participatory approach to planning, implementation and management of the pilot projects to effect the capacity development. (3) It aims at the capacity development not only at the individual level but also at the organizational level involving government officials, community leaders and NGOs, and the contribution to the capacity development at the social/institutional level as well. (4) It combines various methods and subjects of trainings for both on-the-job and off-the job trainings to enhance the overall effects of the capacity development. The unique approach that has been taken as characterized above is now generally referred to as the ICDP approach
