Solving Systems of Equations Algebraically STEPS: 1.Solve for a variable in either equation. Get variable alone (x or y) 2.Substitute for this variable in other equation (plug in its equivalent) 3.Solve this new equation for the remaining variable. 4.Substitute this answer in to find other variable! #1: Page 7 Since y is already alone in this equation, no need to solve for a variable! Now substitute y’s equivalent in to the other equation for y! Solve equation for x! Now sub values for x into either original equation to solve for y. (usually the linear equation is easier) Sub 3 in for x Sub -4 in for x Are the solutions to this system of equations.
