s  What is a variable?  What does it mean to substitute a number?  Why do we need variables to solve problems in real life?  What does an expression consist of?

 Variable-Variables are letters or other symbols that represent unknown numbers or values.  Constant- is a number on its own  Substitution- putting a number in for a variable.  Expression/equation- a group of terms in the format of this=that.  Solve- to find the answer to.

          What is a variable? What does it mean to substitute a number? Why do we need variables to solve problems in real life? What does an expression consist of?

 Label each part of the equation  X+15=45  3y-20=40  Can you solve the equation X+Y=10?  Why?  Y=5 can you now?

 Name some real life situations in which we might encounter an unknown(variable) number and might need an equation to find it?  Do group investigation.  Hand out Post-Assessment
