OUR FANTASTIC BRIDGE WORK. BY PHOENIX ANYA AND GRACE!

WHAT WE DID FIRST This is what we did. First a man came and told us that we are going to compete in a competition. We went on a boat and went on the River Dart. We were on it all day.

RECEIVING AN EXCITING LETTER. On the letter it said that the Devon county council would like us to figure out what it would be like having a bridge across the River Dart. They would like us to do 3d sketches and also make designs of a bridge.

CREATING A QUESTIONNAIRE. What we did first was create questions for Kingswear and Dartmouth. After we did that for an hour we all came together and created a questionnaire.

GOING DOWN TO KINGSWEAR AND DARTMOUTH WITH QUESTIONNAIRES We were all very excited about the public’s ideas for our amazing topic of our bridge work. However people have different opinions. Most of the locals didn’t want one,but tourists were really keen.

TYPES OF BRIDGES WE RESEARCHED. We researched Chapel bridge made in Switzerland, Golden gate bridge made San Francisco also Tower bridge made in London. There are also many others. We were put in 2s and 3s.

SORTING KINGSWEAR AND DARTMOUTH INFORMATION. There were 2 groups of 9, one group was called Dartmouth and Kingswear. We were sorting the questionnaires one pile was Kingswear the other pile was Dartmouth.

CREATING CHARTS AND SUCCESS CRITERIA We put the information from the questionnaires into charts. Ee also split into pairs. we put the info into charts such as bar charts pie charts and pictograms.

GOING DOWN TO THE FERRY As a class we went down to the ferry and figured out where we would put the bridge. Everyone agreed we should put it where the higher ferry is. We all thought the colour should be silver.

SKETCHING OUR LANDSCAPES Angela, the amazing artist, showed us how to draw our landscapes, After that we made our bridge. Then we stuck our bridges on our landscapes, it looked like Dartmouth with a bridge on it.

PLANNING MODELS So we were given sheets and would draw a bridge what you would like it to look like. After that we would write what the different parts would be made out of.

MAKING MODELS. We were given carbord and other things it could be made out of. We were put into 1s 2s and 3s. We would combined our plans together and see what it would look like. Then we got started we would have to make it so they would be bascule bridges. We have really enjoyed it so far.
