Research Methods

Measures of Central Tendency You will be familiar with measures of central tendency- averages. Mean Median Mode

Measures of Variability Describes the distribution of scores High variability in the data will give the data a large distribution Includes: –Range- the highest score minus the lowest score –Variance- how far all scores are from the mean in general –Standard Deviation- how far on average each score is from the mean

Types of Studies Observational Study- no interference from researchers; simple observation of behaviour Experiment- one of the variables of manipulated to test how another variable responds Correlational- two variables are measured to investigate a relationship between the variables.
