H OW THE G O C ARDLESS API WORKS The GoCardless API lets you offer the benefits of GoCardless through their own application. Below is a summary of the critical processes:  You embed a link to the GoCardless payment pages when you want to collect payment or set up a limit  The first time in the process, the user signs up for an account Setting up  You create links that your customers can use to set up a Direct Debit online (e.g., links in s from your user, or buttons on a website)  Customers click these links, and are forward them to GoCardless with details of the payment plan you wish them to authorize  There are three kinds of payment plan: one-off bills, subscriptions, and pre-authorizations (i.e., traditional Direct Debits) Creating Direct Debits  Once a customer has set up a payment plan with you, you can view and manage that it through the GoCardless API  If the payment plan is a pre-authorization you can take payments against it by sending a message to our API Managing Direct Debits
