UPPER LIMB Parts of the upper limb : 1- shoulder. 2- arm. 3- forearm. 4- hand.

Muscles of the forearm 1- flexor muscles : superficial group. deep group. 2- extensor muscles :

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Superficial group : Pronator teres. Flexor carpi radialis. Palmaris longus. Flexor carpi ulnaris. Flexor digitorum superficialis.

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Origin : from medial epicondyle of humerus. Nerve supply : median nerve except flexor carpi ulnaris (by ulnar nerve). Action : flexion of elbow joint + other actions. Carpi, palmaris = flexion of wrist joint. Digitorum = medial 4 fingers.

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Pronator teres : - Origin : common flexor origin. - Insertion : radius. - Nerve supply: median nerve - Action : flexion of elbow joint, pronation.

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Flexor carpi radialis : - Origin : common flexor origin. - Insertion : metacarpal bones 2,3. - Nerve supply: median nerve - Action : flexion of elbow joint and wrist joint.

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Palmaris longus : - Origin : common flexor origin. - Insertion : palmar aponeurosis. - Nerve supply: median nerve - Action : flexion of elbow joint and wrist joint.

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Flexor carpi ulnaris : - Origin : common flexor origin. - Insertion : metacarpal bone 5. - Nerve supply: ulnar nerve - Action : flexion of elbow joint wrist joint.

Superficial flexor muscles of the forearm Flexor digitorum superficialis : - Origin : common flexor origin. - Insertion : medial 4 fingers. - Nerve supply: median nerve - Action : flexion of elbow joint, wrist joint and medial 4 fingers.

Flexor muscles of the forearm Deep group : Flexor pollicis longus. Flexor digitorum profundus. Pronator quadratus.

Deep flexor muscles of the forearm Origin : from radius and ulna. Nerve supply : median nerve and ulnar nerve (medial part of flexor digitorum profundus). Action : flexion of wrist.

Deep flexor muscles of the forearm Flexor pollicis longus : - Insertion : thumb. - Nerve supply: median nerve - Action : flexion of wrist joint and thumb.

Deep flexor muscles of the forearm Flexor digitorum profundus : - Insertion : medial 4 fingers. - Nerve supply: median nerve + ulnar nerve. - Action : flexion of wrist joint and joints of medial 4 fingers.

Deep flexor muscles of the forearm Pronator quadratus : - Insertion : radius. - Nerve supply: median nerve - Action : pronation.
