Motivations When Patient Breaths Target Tissue Moves Patient Needs to Breath in Steady Repeatable Pattern Patient Needs to Practice the Breathing at Home Current Devices are Large, Expensive and Hard to Use

Client Requirements Patient Must Practice Breathing Pattern at Home Display of Patients Breathing Pattern and Guiding Cycle Device Must be Small and Portable Device Must be User Friendly

Software Programmed in LabView Signal sampled from National Instrument Data Acquisition Card Sampling rate can be adjusted accordingly 2 Programs: Client: For obtaining the guiding cycle Patient: Display real-time breathing and guiding cycle simultaneously

Software Currently program can only read the guiding cycle once Need to repeat guiding cycle continuously Improve way of displaying guiding cycle and real-time breathing patterns (i.e. waveform graph)

Future Work Scale design down to portable PDA operated device PDA must be fitted with PCMCIA cradle for DAQ card interface LabVIEW 7.0 PDA module supports applications on PDA Create custom digital cable to replace bulky digital acquisition board

Future Work Eventually design device for use in the tomotherapy machine Video goggles and new software for display to patient while in tomotherapy machine All materials used analyzed for safety in high radiation environment Calculate attenuation and compensate during treatment Human subjects approval

Future Work Plan to continue work as BME 400 Capstone design project Wish to refine and completely finish design Disclose for patent over summer Present finalized design to client and production company
