Understanding Internationalism Internationalism is “the advocacy of a community of interests among nations.” In other words cooperation of nations. Canada helped in Rwanda. (Rwanda cooperated with Canada) Country's do this to prevent war or get on a countries good side.

Impacts of pursuing internationalism in addressing global issues. Disagreements on international interest and national interests. The unwillingness of co-operation between nations in resolving international problems. When internationalism is not wanted, it could cause even more problems. For example, when we are in Iraq promoting peacekeeping, they do not want us there, but if we move out of Iraq it will cause more problems such as civil war.

How Far Would Nations Go To Promote Internationalism Countries go to great extents to promote internationalism. For example, Canada gives out money and has trade agreements with other countries, this promotes internationalism by involving other countries in economical affair's. Say a country went bankrupt and Canada bailed them out, they would be in debt to us and would have to do what we say.

To what extent does nationalism have to be sacrificed for internationalism. We must sacrifice our national interest for another nations interests to move our interests ahead. For example, if the US wanted to go to war we would have to support them if we wanted to remain ally's with them and to still have trade.

Why would we engage in international affairs? International affairs is relations among countries. Countries want this because of security, stability, peace, humanitarianism and self-determination. When Canada went in and helped Rwanda by peacekeeping that means they will have our back when we need it (Our international affair). When you have a relation with a country such as trade they are less likely to fight. Or when a country needs a bail out they can rely on a country they have relations with.

Internationalism through Foreign Policy. Foreign policy "is composed of goals, values set, decisions made and actions taken by states and national governments acting on their behalf in the context of the external relations of national societies. It constitutes an attempt to design, manage and control the foreign relations in national societies.“ Internationalism relates to this because in order to make a rule for you and another country there has to be give and take or cooperation. One country can not just make laws without consulting with the other nation. There must be Internationalism in Foreign Policy. Foreign aid doesn’t happen unless another asks for it. Then they both figure out what works for the both of them. (Cooperation) just like in the example of Haiti

Appreciate that nations and states engage in regional and global affairs. Why would nations and states engage in regional and global affairs? It is so your nation can look good to the rest of the world. Canada's role in Rwanda is a great example. Canada helped Rwanda for humanitarian reasons and because it would look good for trading rep. Another reason is for allies, other countries look at us as a peace keeping country. If we help them they will help us when we need it.

Understand impacts of nation and state involvement in regional and global affairs on individual and collective identities A great example of this is General Romeo Dallaire because of Canada's peacekeeping he is haunted everyday by what he saw and by what he wanted to do but didn’t because of the UN.

Demonstrate a global consciousness with respect to the human condition and global affairs It is the awareness that people have in the ongoing world Example: if you were to survey people in Canada what is happening in Darfur almost all would be able to tell you Same thing about Rwanda if you ask someone to point it out on a map they couldn’t tell you, but ask them what happen and they would
