TAG – What is it all about?

Know Your TAG Category! You may be TAG in one, two, or all three of the following categories: Intellectual Math Reading Knowing your TAG category is crucial

Double-Check TAG Category Double-check your TAG category on your DPI sheet with the master-list to ensure that you are in the proper TAG category Knowing your category allows you to know your TAG options

What Are My Options? This depends on your TAG category If you’re only Math TAG, you can benefit from Math options only If you’re Reading TAG only, you can benefit from all courses which require reading….English, Social Studies, Health, Science, etc. If you’re Intellectually TAG, you have options in all courses listed above

English Options Students should take Accelerated English or AP classes Students may propose an alternative option for reading and writing subject to instructor approval:  Reading – students may choose a more challenging book or short story if they have already read the one assigned  Writing – students may choose an upper-level topic for papers, projects, etc.

Math Options May choose to have the same amount of homework problems with fewer easy problems and more complex problems instead Student-driven:  Work through acceleration - complete units in advance and move on to the next unit

Science Options Students should take accelerated courses in required classes and challenge themselves further in college prep science classes. Class grade based on academic scores only, not personal management scores. Student-driven independent study (not available in all courses)  Student chooses topics relating to course curriculum & standards.  Requirements, due dates, & scoring guides are mutually agreed to in writing.  Students are still required to take semester finals.  This option is rarely chosen.

Social Studies Options Students should take Accelerated World History or AP/College classes offered in Social Sciences Students may propose an alternative option for reading and writing subject to instructor approval:  Reading – students may choose a more challenging book or short story or if they have already read the one assigned.  Writing – students may choose an upper-level topic for papers, projects, etc.

Health Student proposals are welcome

Spanish After Spanish 1 and 2, students should take Spanish 3 and 4. ▫Spanish 3: College credit for Spanish 101, 102, 103 (12 credits). ▫Spanish 4: College credit for Spanish 201, 202, 203 (12 credits). Students should use podcasts, internet, films to advance their interpretive listening skills and study groups to advance their interpersonal speaking skills. See Mrs. Roth for recommendations.

So, What Do I Do Now? 1.Discuss the options with your parents and teachers. 2.If you want TAG services, get your DPI form filled out by your teacher(s), yourself, and your parent(s) or guardian. 3.Return the DPI to Mrs. Alexander, in the career counseling office.

What If I Don’t Want Services? Sign the DPI form and note that you are declining services. However, be specific. State if you are declining services for the semester or state if you want to be removed from the TAG list. If you want to be removed from the TAG list, I will no longer contact you. Have your parents sign it and turn it in to Mrs. Alexander.

Feel Free To Contact Me: Melissa Boyd – TAG Coordinator
