Review: Writing

What does your writing need?

Focus Is your writing on topic? Tell the reader about a time where you were brave. Convince your parents to allow you to attend a concert. (audience)

Organization Essay= 4 or 5 paragraphs Logical Flow Separate thoughts in each paragraph

Example: Not organized Topic: Favorite Color Paragraph 2: My favorite color is blue because it reminds me of the ocean. Paragraph 3: Another reason why I like blue is when I go to the beach I see the ocean.

Example: Good Organization Topic: Favorite Color Paragraph 2: My favorite color is blue because it reminds me of the ocean. Paragraph 3: Another reason why I like blue is that I wear a lot of blue, such as blue jeans. Blue is a color that, when worn, goes with many other colors.

Support Back up your reasons Give relevant examples, evidence, stories, quotes, and/or statistics to your reasons or details.

Example: no support Why people should eat healthy. Paragraph 2- My second reason people should eat healthy is to avoid getting sick. I don’t like getting sick. When I get sick I have to go to the doctor. I don’t like the doctor because they give shots and medicine that I don’t like. Does this have anything to do with eating healthy?

Example: with support Paragraph 2- My second reason people should eat healthy is to avoid getting sick. Doctors and nutritionist have been saying for years that a healthy diet can lead to a longer life with fewer chances of becoming seriously ill. When you eat nothing but junk food, your body does not get the essential nutrients it needs to keep you healthy.
