The Basics: Front and Back - Turning on/off vs. sleep - Camera x2 - Volume and mute - Headphone/speaker - Sleep/wake - Home buttons

Charging and Cables - Charge with the power adapter - Connect to the Computer with USB Cable (Used for syncing – more on that later) - Able to charge with USB, but not always

Interacting with the iPad - Swipe to Scroll - App Icons: tap to open (close) (More on apps later...) - Status Bar: Wi-Fi / Battery - Zoom: pinch / double tap - Rotate: Portrait vs. Landscape - Keyboard (different views)

Pre-installed Apps - Music - Messages - Calendar (open) - Notes (open) - Camera (open) - Photobooth - Photos (open) - Newsstand - Reminders - Maps - YouTube - Videos - Contacts - Game Center - iTunes - FaceTime

Taking a Look at Apps - Free vs. Paid - What is a “Lite” version of an app? - Looking for apps - top charts - categories - search bar - Check the ratings, not just the stars: READ! - Updates (notifications: the red circle) - Some apps are Wi-Fi dependant

Managing Your Apps - Move and change positions - Group into folders - Rename folders - Deleting - Open and scroll within folders - Create new home page screen - Force close: usually not necessary (advanced) - 4 swipe or double home tap

Apple ID The login you use for everything having to do with Apple - downloading apps from the App Store - using iTunes (required for syncing – more on that later) - iCloud storage

Creating an Apple ID - Open Safari - Type: appleid.apple.com into the address bar / URL bar - Touch “Go” on keyboard - Touch blue “Create an Apple ID” button - Use school address? - Create Password and fill in other info - Touch “Create an Apple ID” button

Keyboard Shortcuts and Tricks - Double space for inserting a period - Use the magnifying glass to change text within word - Holding down certain keys provides additional character options. Example: long comma key tap = apostrophe - Turning on Caps Lock: double tap up arrow - AutoCorrect: - Reject: finish the word you prefer, and then tapping the suggestion - Use: type a space or punctuation mark, the moment AutoCorrect pops up

More Shortcuts and Tricks - 4 finger swipe up to view most recent apps - 5 finger swipe in to close - Use search screen to find apps, etc. quickly - Screen shot = hit Home button and Power button (saved to photos) - Add up to 6 icons to dock - Copy and paste (word or paragraph)
