Distinguished Plan  Additional Requirements  3 rd credit in Foreign Language  IPC not eligible  Cohort/Class of 2015 only:  STAAR – Junior year testing  4 additional measures :  Research project – ISM (Independent Study Mentorship)  AP Test scores (3 or better)  College Courses ( B or better)

District Graduation Policy  Students must complete all required coursework in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.  Students must also pass the Exit Level TAKS or STAAR requirements to receive a diploma.

 On-Level Classes – college readiness  PreAp/AP/Dual – college credit potential

 Rigorous  College Content – approved by College Board  Higher Grade Point Scale  College Credit potential (verify through university website or College board)  AP Exams, $57 per exam, May 2012  Payment plan options  See Mrs. Grillet – table at Open House

TESTING Exit Level TAKS Retests for seniors: October 18 – 21 (ELA, Math, Sci, Soc.St) Juniors:  English Language Arts – March 7, 2012  Math – April 25, 2012  Science – April 26, 2012  Social Studies – April 27, 2012

 English Language Arts – March 7, 2012  Math – April 24, 2012  Science – April 26, 2012  Social Studies – April 27, 2012

 What we know:  More rigorous  Tests on specific subject area:  English, Biology, W. Geography and  Current Math  Minimum score each year required When: Week of March 26 th

Semesters & Credits  Treat semesters like the end of the year  Semester average determines credit .5 credit per semester class  Semester average is on your permanent record  Semester Averaging – average of both semesters to determine final credit- (failing grade will still show on transcript)

How is semester average calculated? 1 st 6 weeks grade: 75 2 nd 6 weeks grade: 70 3 rd 6 weeks grade: 70 ( )/3 = 72 Average: 72 x.80 = 57.6 Semester Exam 55 x.20 = 11 Add together to get semester average = 68.6 Sem. Ave = 69 This would not be “bumped up” to a 70 – a 69 is an F.

GPA & Class Rank  GPA - Grade Point Average (Example: 3.62) Shows personal performance 4.0 and 5.0 scale shown on transcript 5.0 scale reflects Honors classes  Class Rank Shows comparison to other students based on GPA 9th grade is important  Example: Graduating Class of 2012 – 399  Top 10% - 1 – 39 - Top 20% - 1 – 79

Credit Options  Humble ISD Summer School  On Campus or after school credit recovery  Grad- Night School (seniors)  Houston Learning Academy- $235 per course Contact: (281)  Texas Virtual School  Texas Tech Correspondence Course- $150 per course (  Texas Tech Credit by exam- $40 per course  Retrieval- 70%  Acceleration- 90%

TESTING REASONS TO TAKE PSAT  College readiness preparation  Experience gained for entrance exam, SAT  Opportunity for scholarships  Juniors may qualify for National Merit program announced in September 2012  District pays for all 10 th graders.  The cost for juniors is $  The date of the test is Wednesday, October 12.  Juniors register through Mrs. Grillet  by Sept. 22 nd (table at Open House)
