The Discovery

The Discovery In 1922 Howard carter and George Herbert discovered a near intact tomb of Tutankhamun. The discovery received world wide press coverage and a renewed public interest in ancient Egypt. Tutankhamun was buried in a tomb that was small for someone of his status.

Life Tutankhamun was the son of Akhenaten. He ascended the thrown in 1333BC, at the age of nine or ten. As a prince he was known as Tutankhamen. When he became king he married his half – sister, Ankhesenpaaten who later changed her name to Ankhesenamun.

Reign The king had very powerful to guide him because of his young age. Tutankhamun reversed several changes made during his fathers' reign. He ended the worship of the god Aten and restored the god Amun to supremacy.

DEATH There are no surviving records of Tutankhamun's death. What caused Tutankhamun's death has been the subject of considerable debate. (The Valley of the kings)

Legacy Tutankhamun is the world's best known pharaoh, it is largely because his tomb is among the best preserved, and his image and associated artefact's the most-exhibited. "The pharaoh who in life was one of the least esteemed of Egypt's Pharaohs has become in death the most renowned."
