Course Registration Cards At the top right of your card write: DO NOT REMOVE TRANSCRIPT Complete the demographic information at the top (write clearly) At the top of your card write: Return Date:______________ Take a look at your transcript. Look at your gpa/class rank. Special Notation: it is also important to have updated phone numbers in the computer. Please share this information with Mrs. Wheeler.

Graduation Requirements 24 units—Grades English (English I, II, III, IV) 4 Math (Math I, II, III, higher level math) 3 Science (Earth/Environ., Biology, and a Physical Science) 4 Social Studies (World, Civics, American History I and II; or US History AP and Social Studies Elective) Health/PE 9 8 Electives (2 World Language/Art/CTE) Must complete CMS Graduation Project/CPR Credit

North Carolina Scholars Program 4 English (I, II, III, IV) 4 Math (Math I, II, III, and higher level math where Math III is a pre-requisite) 3 Science (a Physics, or Chemistry, Biology, and Earth/Environmental) 4 Social Studies (World, Civics, US History/another history or American History I and II 1 Health/PE 4 Four elective credits that create a “concentration” 3 Higher Level courses taken during 11 th /12 th grade which carry 5 0R 6 quality points

What level should I take? Standard, Honors, and AP Standard-regular course of study Honors-more rigorous, academically challenging AP-extremely rigorous course of study, must be a highly motivated student; great work ethic, strong reader, must be able to multi-task COLLEGE LEVEL CURRICULUM

Registration Card What is the Hybrid Schedule? 4X4 Courses-90 minute classes that you take everyday for a semester A/B Day Course-90 minute yearlong classes that you take every other day Special Notation: when you select an A/B Day class you must select them in pairs (2)

Select Core Courses English Math Science Social Studies Foreign Language (only if you plan to attend a 4 year university) 4 or 5 courses selected

Electives If you select 4 core classes; select 4 electives (for example four 4x4 courses OR two 4x4 courses and two A/B Day courses) Must select have 8 check marks on the card. Your alternates are just as important as your original 8 choices. Do not write down anything that YOU do not want to take.

General Electives-Highlights Art History AP-exciting course; MUST be in avid reader and writer Fine Arts Courses-these courses are now taught at masterly level ; if a student reach proficient or advanced level(s) he or she will get a quality point; if the course is a beginning course you do not need a teacher signature; if you are interested in possibly taking a higher level you must get a signature from your fine arts teacher.

General Electives-Highlights continued………. Help Desk Course-11 th and 12 th graders; must see Mrs. Bucci for an application in the media center; great course for students interested in a career in computer science or engineering or if you’re a lover of technology. JROTC-emphasis on character education, leadership, citizenship, wellness, and student achievement

Career Technical Education (CTE) Programs/Courses Career and Technical Education prepares student for further education and careers. Whether a student plans to enter the workforce right after high school, attend college or military, you can gain enormous skills, hands-on skills CTE Program help to prepare student for future jobs in high-skill, high-wage and high demand fields

CTE-Clusters and Concentrations Continue……. Career Clusters prepares learners for a full range of occupations/career specialties, focusing on technical, academic and employability knowledge and skills. CTE Concentrations (Benefits)-students will be future ready; opportunity to focus on content; colleges/ employers will be impress that have value in the CTE curriculum Concentrations are not required, but beneficial

CTE Continue….. Work Keys is used to help students understand how the can improve their skills for better- paying jobs. Students who take the Work Keys test have a clear way to demonstrate their abilities to future employers. The WK system measures skills such as reading, math, listening, locating information, and team work; these are skills employers feel are critical to job success.

CTE/Concentration Career and College Promise Students can take the follow CTE Courses (under one cluster) 3 Foundational /1 Enhancement Courses OR 4 Foundation Courses Career and College Promise-these are courses that you can take at CPCC for high school/college credit; College Transfer Courses and CTE courses-See Mrs. King

Registration Reminders If you have already passed a course do not sign up for it again-exception Fine Arts. Discuss your course selection/registration card with your parents. Make sure that you and parent sign the registration card and bring it back at the assigned time. Early Release-Seniors only-See counselor!
