1 When is an Element Achieved? yTo achieve an element you must be able to demonstrate: y A Written Standard for the Element y The Means by Which the Element Was Communicated y That you Have Provided the Necessary Training y Evaluate or Have a Plan to Evaluate y Make Changes and Acknowledge Success

2 What Would be an Acceptable Evaluation? Is the element actually implemented and working? ySmall sample survey of employees yStatistical review i.e. WSIB information yReview by JOHSC yManagement review yReview of inspection reports & JOHSC minutes yPhysical observation/inspection

3 How Can We Acknowledge Success? Recognize everyone who contributed to successful prevention activities by meeting & surpassing company standards, for example: y letter/memo from the president y health & safety awards y public recognition i.e. coffee & donuts for JOHSC and/or employees y staff meeting, Christmas banquet, etc.

4 How are Elements Maintained? 1. Annual review of standards. Best practice - circulate policies & procedures for comment 2. Revisit communication 3. Train new, transferred or returning staff as required 4. Annual evaluation of elements - is it still working, are changes needed Documentation!!
