Obesity, Starvation, Malnutrition, Diets and Metabolic Rate By Luke Blizard

Obesity Obesity is a term used to describe somebody who is very overweight with a high degree of body fat. People who do less exercise in their lives are at higher risk of Obesity as they will not burn off fat in their body, therefore it will store up, causing obesity. Obesity can lead to serious health problems such as: Diabetes, Heart disease, High blood pressure, Arthritis, Indigestion, Gallstones, some cancers and infertility

Starvation Starvation is a state of extreme hunger resulting from lack of essential nutrients over a prolonged period. There are many factors in to why people are in starvation. Poverty is one of the biggest factors. Some of the health issues of starvation are: irregular heartbeat (sinus bradycardia), Heart attacks, dehydration and Death.

Malnutrition Malnutrition is the lack of important nutrition. According to the Worl d Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition is the gravest single threat to global public health. While malnutrition used to be seen as something which complicated such diseases as measles, pneumonia and diarrhoea, it often works the other way round - malnutrition can cause diseases to occur. Around 9 children die every minute because of malnutrition

Diets A diet is a plan of variety of different foods with equal amounts of the food groups to keep the body healthy. A Diet is important because it controls our weight, MBR, and our nutrition. People who don't go on diets, are more likely to not get the right amount of all the food groups which can cause different health problems.

Metabolic Rate Metabolic rate is the rate at which your body uses energy to perform all the different types of work necessary for maintenance, growth, repair, etc. Everything you eat and do affects your metabolism, or the rate at which your body burns calories. A glycemic index diet helps you increase your metabolic rate for faster weight loss. BMR Calculation for Women: (4.35 × weight in pounds) + (4.7 × height in inches) – (4.7 × age in years) BMR Calculation for Men: 66 + (6.23 × weight in pounds) + (12.7 × height in inches) – (6.76 × age in years)
