Shapes

Octagon An octagon has __________ sides. We can remember how many sides octagon has because “oct” means “eight”. Octagons are used in stop signs.

Hexagon Hexagons have __________ sides. “Hex” in the word “hexagon” means six. Inside beehives, honeycomb is made with hexagon shapes.

Pentagon A pentagon has __________ sides. “Penta” means five, and sometimes we see pentagons in nature, like in the middle of this flower.

Diamond A diamond has __________ sides. Diamonds have equal sides, and sometimes kites are shaped like diamonds.

Circle A circle has __________ sides. Circles are special because they are the only round shape. Circles are used for lots of delicious foods, like pizza and cupcakes.

Star A star shape has __________ sides. Stars are the points of light that we see in the sky at night. The sun is a star that keeps our planet warm and gives us light.

Rectangle A rectangle has __________ sides. Two sides of the rectangle are always longer than the others two sides and the opposite sides are equal. Bricks are rectangle shaped.

Square Squares have __________ sides. All sides are the same size, and two squares put together make a rectangle. Squares are used for lots of games like checkers.

Triangle A triangle has __________ sides. Triangles are seen all over, and in a country called Egypt they built pyramids a long time ago. They are made of triangles.
