HOW TO BE SAFE ONLINE By :Sarah Quarles

The internet is a great tool when used with caution!  The internet is an amazing tool that connects people from all over the world with each other. But what makes the internet amazing also makes it dangerous because anyone can log on and pretend to be someone their not

If your going to hang out online be smart follow these 10 simple rules Rule # 1  Never Give personal information online!  Never give anyone your whole name, addresses, phone number!  Also never give out social security number, school name, or sports team.  Keep your information to yourself!

Rule # 2  Don’t use real name as screen name!  Be creative give yourself a nickname  Do not use your hometown or real age.

Rule # 3  Keep your password to yourself!!!  Giving out your password is like giving your brother or sister a key to your bedroom(they can get into your stuff when whenever they want! Yikes!

Rule # 4  Read the Rules & privacy options for websites  Really read them know what your settings are!  Be in control of what people see/ or don’t see

Rule # 5  Only share stuff online That you don’t mind anyone seeing.  Anyone can see the internet including your parents, your friends parent, Your TEACHER, If you want your Private information to stay private, Don’t post it online!

Rule # 6  Once you post something online it stays online!  You can delete something from your site,but people can get an older versions of your page where the information still exists.  If your not sure you should something on the internet….. Do not say it!

Rule # 7  If you’re a kid KEEP YOUR PHOTOS offline!  1 st if you post a pic of yourself people will know what you look like!  2 nd people can use your photo without your permission.

Rule # 8  Don’t download anything unless you know who its from!  Downloads can give your computer viruses, some even causes your computer to shut down.

Rule # 9  Keep your online friendships online!  There are all kinds of cool people out their however you can not keep the creeps out!  If someone wants to meet you in person tell an adult! Don’t meet them.

Rule # 10  And finally, if you feel unsafe,tell an adult!  If someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable tell an adult you trust. Do not handle this on your on!
