 Fiction: novels, poetry, drama, short stories, graphic novels, manga, picture books, etc  Nonfiction: driver’s ed manual, cookbook, DIY book, magazines, newspapers, obituaries, etc

 Think of it as a do-it-yourself project…

 Interest – e.g., if you know you like fashion, look for an illustrated history of clothing

 Recommendations (friends, teacher, librarian, GVC Book Reviews, booktalks, etc)

 Reviews (usually on the back cover of a book: Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, VOYA, Canadian Review of Materials, ALA)

 Skim a few pages in the middle to see if you like the writer’s style

 If you know you like one particular thing, look for more of the same (e.g., if you like Twilight, try reading Anne Rice’s books)

 Genres?  What should I see in class?  Contribution to classroom culture of reading?
